The National Debt for the USA, by year

I don't remember where I found this – maybe on Digg? In any case, it's a very interesting image that shows how much debt was incurred by the USA, every year. The image is a link that leads to a larger, more readable version.

small image of national debt, by president

That certainly puts things in a different light for me.

This data is all messed up. So let me just look at the chart you have posted. Under Rep. Pres. National debt went up, and in those years we had better Security and Prosperity at all income levels. Under Dem Pres. National debt went down and we have had the GAS bubble, Internet Bust bubble, and now a Jobs, Econ bust bubble. Income levels have gone down.

Humm. Gee Maw! seems I like Rep Pres. they can give us Jobs and Security and Prosperity. Oh yeah and keep our wages up. I don't want to SHARE my wages with lazy, unemployed, on the DOLE, Americans or watch idiots in DC (DEMS) waste my wages on SOCIAL JUSTICE or ENGINEERING. GET OUT of MY HOUSE.

Your facts are incorrect. Under Clinton we had the largest period of job creation and economic growth in my lifetime. We subsequently had a lost decade with the few jobs that were created rapidly swallowed up by the Bush recession. During Bush’s tenure, the stock market was stagnant and economic growth was meager. The national debt increased under all of the presidents above, just more slowly with the Democrats. The Republicans are the biggest spenders. They have been since Reagan came to office and George H W Bush called his policies Voodoo economics. The chart accurately shows the deficits during the period covered.

You are welcome to your own opinion, but please do your homework and get the facts straight.

Your both wrong, U.S. Presidents don't spend a dime, Congress does. A more accurate chart would follow Democratic and Republican control of Congress vs. increases in national debt.

Is there an updated graph? The National Debt is now at $13 trillion, doubled since a Democrat president took office. Looks like your assertion is flawed. Also, the graph should correlate which party controlled Congress, since Congress decides when/where to spend money.

A different light??? Yeah, Liberals lie. That's the only way they can make their "points".
The truth is (and AP's comment above is right) only the House can initiate bills for spending and for taxes. If you realize the House had a Democrat majority for 40 years up until 1994, you can see the debt drop significantly during the Republican's House majority. Then when Democrats regained majority in 2002, it went up again.
This year's 111th Democratic Congress rose the National Debt more than all 100 previous Congresses combined! So, who's the big spenders?

The president submits a budget to congress, so congress is not to blame.

This is an interesting graph Tony, however, an updated version will give a truer picture, U.S. debt debt now is around $13 trillion under the democrats.

I wonder if you guys noticed that every administration from the past twenty five years has failed to come up with an effective debt servicing platform. Without a solid debt servicing program, our debt will continue to reach new heights and the fiscal deficit will also expand in gap.
